November 4, 2016
Dear Parents,
This week we began with our
Halloween celebration. Thank you so much
to everyone who helped and a special thank you to our room moms. The kids had a great time! Then we began discussing how living things
and nonliving things move. We talked
about gravity here on earth and gravity in space and then began our discussion
about things in space. We talked about
astronauts and what it would look like to see the Earth and moon in space. We learned that the Earth rotates around the
sun and the moon rotates around the Earth.
We learned information about the moon, sun, and stars and we went over
all of the planets. The students really
enjoyed talking and learning about space.
In math, we discussed what greater/more than, less than/fewer, and equal
means and looked at sets of objects to see which was greater or which was
less. We reviewed over ways to make
numbers 1-4; for example: 1 – 1,0 or 0, 1;
2 – 2,0, 1,1, 0,2; etc. We also
worked on counting 1st-10th and drawing stars.

Reminders
- Be sure you received the letter about
Thanksgiving. We will be making
soup, so everyone has a can item to send in. You only need to send in 1
can of the item that is listed. If you could send that in by Monday
November 21st or earlier, that would be great. Also, be sure you received the email
about the sign-up for the other items.
Please be sure you check the sign-up if you haven’t signed up for
anything yet. All parents are
invited to attend our feast on Tuesday the 22nd at 11:45. It will be in the classroom. However, if anyone has an idea of how we
could do it outside (weather permitting), please let me know. I know most parents/families will be
coming and we know how small the room is.
So please, if you have any ideas let me know.
- Please be sure to check out the
Scholastic flyers sent home or you can look online at the books they
have. Orders are due November 7th. I can earn extra bonus points this month
if I have $25 worth of orders. So
please check out the great book deals they have.
- Don’t forget that the “Family Turkey
Project is due on Thursday November 10th. You are welcome to send it in any day
next week when you finish it. The
students will have an opportunity to share their project with the class.
- Please remember to record the books
you read to your child or that your child reads on their own. You record this by coloring in the
little picture for that month or you can use the Book It! site. Students are suppose to read or be read
to 25 books in order to get the certificate. I was a little lenient last month but
for each month students should read 25 books.
· Please
note that preorders for lunch on Monday and Friday will be stopping soon. I’m sure there will be more explanation in
the school newsletter, but I wanted to give everyone a heads up. There will be no more preorders after
November 18th. Please go to this link to register your student and to
order.
